Model

Now that we have finished our designs for the set to how we have discussed and decided, we are going to make a model. Making a scaled down model is the best way to firstly; visualise the set and secondly; to know if our designs can actually be done. For example, we may make the model and find out and room has too much inside or that a piece of furniture is too big. Now we are able to change around the rooms, decide to change certain sizes of objects or even the shape of a room. Without making a model we would rush straight into making the actual set and may stumble into a dead end when we realise that the set doesn’t work on a whole. We want to avoid this as much as possible.

To make the model set, we first took our final design of the set and everyone’s final design of what they are going to make to gather all of the measurements which we needed to make the model successfully.

Using the same scale which we used for the drawing (1’ foot to 1’’ inch) we all drew out what we were making for the actually set, so I made the walls. To this was very simple, drawing each shape out onto white card, and then cutting them out. Once I had all seven walls cut out, then it was a simple process of taping them all together to how the set will actually be built in the future. I had one problem where with the two bedroom side walls I cut the window and door on the wrong side. This didn’t create a massive problem, just a silly mistake to make.

I help other members of the group finishing there pieces and the model started coming together.

Building the set really helped us especially with finishing off doubts which we had, for example the doors. The shape which had been designed for the bedroom was awkward, but that is how we wanted it. By making the model I was able to probably design and visualise how the window and door will fit in the bedroom. To do this I had to draw a front on image of the room with its vanishing point. Creating an image with the vanishing is one of the most important ways to make sure that the set all fits together and that everything is inline.
